New York Retina and Macula Institute was recently referred a patient with a chronic, large macular hole that had failed traditional surgical approaches elsewhere.
Dr. Pollack utilized an amniotic membrane graft during the repair, and the outcome has been exceptional. The macular hole achieved full closure, and the patient is already experiencing meaningful visual improvement in the early postoperative period. Just 3 weeks post op the patient sees 20/80 improved from 20/200. Above images show the pre-op OCT and the OCT 3 weeks post PPV, membranectomy, amniotic membrane graft to the right eye.
